James

James ‘JD’ Long

James ‘JD’ Long is the Chief Technology Officer at Palomar, where he blends his expertise in insurance, reinsurance, data science, and technology. His career spans roles at RenaissanceRe, Guy Carpenter, KPMG, and Genworth Financial where JD has driven innovation in risk management and quantitative analysis by bridging between core business executives and tech and quant teams. His ability to demystify complex models and communicate insights effectively is his super power.
Magdalena

Magdalena Ramada

Magdalena Ramada is a Senior Director and Global InsurTech Innovation Leader at WTW’s Insurance Consulting and Technology (ICT). She leads ICT’s inorganic growth strategy as well as its interaction with the external insurtech ecosystem globally. She joined the firm as a Senior Economist at Watson Wyatt’s Research and Innovation Center in 2005. She has 20+ years of experience in R&D and international strategy consulting and was WTW’s Global Head of Research and Analytical Services. Magda holds a M.Sc. in math. Finance and a PhD in Quantitative Economics and Finance. She also holds a professional certificate on Innovation from the MIT Professional Education Program.
Johanna

Johanna Ziegel

Johanna Ziegel is Professor of Statistics at ETH Zurich, since 2024. She is Visiting Scientist at the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies. Johanna obtained her PhD in 2009 at ETH Zurich and then held postdoctoral in Melbourne, and Heidelberg. In 2012 she joined the University of Bern, where she was promoted to Associate Professor in 2018 and to Full Professor in 2023. She has been a Council Member of the Bernoulli Society and has served as Associate Editor for several leading international journals including Mathematical Finance, Bernoulli, JASA: Theory & Methods, Journal of Financial Econometrics, and International Journal of Forecasting. She won the Credit Swiss Award for Best Teaching at the University of Bern in 2022.
